On March 12th we had a great group of volunteers brave the rain to help us build a replacement section of trail. The existing trail laid too low on the terrain and collected water too easily. This new connector lies further up the hill and will be much better about draining rainwater. Again we hadContinue reading “Rain and mud made for a fun, wet session”

The snow’s gone, let’s build a bridge and some new trail!
We’re building another bridge on La-Z-Boy and plan to reroute a trail section to eliminate an area that holds water. While our major work (the building) of La-Z-Boy ended months ago, we’re still working hard to make it sustainable trail before we move on to our next trail. We think it’s an awesome trail, butContinue reading “The snow’s gone, let’s build a bridge and some new trail!”
Feb 26 trail building session has been cancelled due to weather
Unfortunately weather challenges are forcing us to cancel Saturday’s (2/26) session. It is unfortunate because we were excited about our upcoming project. We’re building another bridge on La-Z-Boy and plan to reroute a section to eliminate an area with poor drainage. While our major work (the building) of La-Z-Boy ended months ago, we’re working hardContinue reading “Feb 26 trail building session has been cancelled due to weather”

Jan 22 session
On January 22 we enjoyed excellent weather for our work session and we accomplished a substantial amount of maintenance work on La-Z-Boy. The extra rain we’ve received lately showed us which parts of the trail needed better drainage and/or more fill material. We’d like to thank our new volunteers who worked all day carrying wheelbarrowsContinue reading “Jan 22 session”
Thank You, Mount Vernon’s Wellness Committee
The Wellness Committee was one of our best groups in 2010. Their large group showed up early, worked hard, and stayed most of the day. In one session they amassed enough volunteer hours to finish third in our group competition. We sincerely hope they join us again in 2011.
Join us this Saturday January, 22
Friends, followers and trail builders, This Saturday we’ll finish the top half of La-Z-Boy. We’re rerouting a section, doing drainage work, and capping the upper half of the trail with crushed rock. So we’ll be moving lots of rock with wheelbarrows. We need all the help we can get. We’ll also be finishing up theContinue reading “Join us this Saturday January, 22”
Earth clubs plant native plants on Little Mountain
Last session the Burlington-Edison and Mount Vernon High School Earth Clubs teamed up to plant over three hundred (300) native plants on our upper trail called “Sidewinder”. They did an excellent job and now lead our group competition with the most volunteer hours. Last year’s winning group (Shell Refinery of Anacortes) follows them in second.Continue reading “Earth clubs plant native plants on Little Mountain”
