April 23rd work party set a record
We’d like to thank all 55 of our volunteers who turned out last Saturday. Fifty-five is our record number of volunteers in one session. This is astounding and we can’t thank you all enough. Once again we were operating the high-line system of ropes, pulleys, and buckets. Using this eliminates a half mile wheelbarrow tripContinue reading “April 23rd work party set a record”
Please join our work party on April 23rd
We’re having another high-line material moving operation Saturday. They are cool enough that a talented videographer, Jim Thompson of Anacortes, captured it for us last session. I think you’ll find Jim’s video compelling. I hope you’ll check it out, and pass it along to your friends – because we need the help: Last session weContinue reading “Please join our work party on April 23rd”
Watch our Mount Vernon Trail Builder’s video

Rock and gravel moved with the aid of a high-line
Last Saturday’s session was low on volunteers, but this was somewhat offset by the use of a high-line rigging for moving rock and gravel directly downhill from the access road to the trail where it was needed. This eliminated a half mile or so of manual wheelbarrow labor making the transportation of the rock muchContinue reading “Rock and gravel moved with the aid of a high-line”
Join us Saturday April 9th
This Saturday we’re moving rock and gravel using two high-line trolley systems. We will be lowering buckets of rock and gravel down from the park access road on a steel cable to the middle of La-Z-Boy. The area we need the material is the wettest section of La-Z-boy, an area that is half a mileContinue reading “Join us Saturday April 9th”
Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity
This past Saturday we had the Cook family join us. Travis, Kathy, and Isaac helped move rock and soil to make improvements to La-Z-Boy. We had a smaller than usual turnout, but great weather. The power carrier is a very valuable tool. Here JT and Jerry Granahan coordinate the placement of more rock on theContinue reading “Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity”
Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th
The Parks Department has moved our railroad ballast and crushed rock into place. Tomorrow we’ll finish our new reroute on La-Z-Boy, shoring up the soft spots with rock, then capping it all with crushed. We’re also going to do some work on Surfer’s Way and Huff-n-Puff, eliminating several wet spots. We’ll move the majority ofContinue reading “Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th”
