Rock and gravel moved with the aid of a high-line
Last Saturday’s session was low on volunteers, but this was somewhat offset by the use of a high-line rigging for moving rock and gravel directly downhill from the access road to the trail where it was needed. This eliminated a half mile or so of manual wheelbarrow labor making the transportation of the rock muchContinue reading “Rock and gravel moved with the aid of a high-line”
Join us Saturday April 9th
This Saturday we’re moving rock and gravel using two high-line trolley systems. We will be lowering buckets of rock and gravel down from the park access road on a steel cable to the middle of La-Z-Boy. The area we need the material is the wettest section of La-Z-boy, an area that is half a mileContinue reading “Join us Saturday April 9th”
Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity
This past Saturday we had the Cook family join us. Travis, Kathy, and Isaac helped move rock and soil to make improvements to La-Z-Boy. We had a smaller than usual turnout, but great weather. The power carrier is a very valuable tool. Here JT and Jerry Granahan coordinate the placement of more rock on theContinue reading “Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity”
Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th
The Parks Department has moved our railroad ballast and crushed rock into place. Tomorrow we’ll finish our new reroute on La-Z-Boy, shoring up the soft spots with rock, then capping it all with crushed. We’re also going to do some work on Surfer’s Way and Huff-n-Puff, eliminating several wet spots. We’ll move the majority ofContinue reading “Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th”
Rain and mud made for a fun, wet session
On March 12th we had a great group of volunteers brave the rain to help us build a replacement section of trail. The existing trail laid too low on the terrain and collected water too easily. This new connector lies further up the hill and will be much better about draining rainwater. Again we hadContinue reading “Rain and mud made for a fun, wet session”
The snow’s gone, let’s build a bridge and some new trail!
We’re building another bridge on La-Z-Boy and plan to reroute a trail section to eliminate an area that holds water. While our major work (the building) of La-Z-Boy ended months ago, we’re still working hard to make it sustainable trail before we move on to our next trail. We think it’s an awesome trail, butContinue reading “The snow’s gone, let’s build a bridge and some new trail!”
Feb 26 trail building session has been cancelled due to weather
Unfortunately weather challenges are forcing us to cancel Saturday’s (2/26) session. It is unfortunate because we were excited about our upcoming project. We’re building another bridge on La-Z-Boy and plan to reroute a section to eliminate an area with poor drainage. While our major work (the building) of La-Z-Boy ended months ago, we’re working hardContinue reading “Feb 26 trail building session has been cancelled due to weather”
Join us this Saturday, the 12th
