On May 22 13 volunteers turned out in the morning rain to work on Fred’s Trail. As the day progressed they turned an old, eroded, steep, scramble route into a still challenging, safer, more sustainable trail. A strong and skilled group worked on steep and slippery terrain building crib and fill steps, stone steps andContinue reading “May 22 work on Fred’s Trail was a great success”

Reminder about work party this Sunday
Sundays are not our normal work party day so we thought we’d send out a reminder about the work party scheduled for this Sunday. It would be great to see you!
May 14th session
We had nice weather and a good turnout of 16 volunteers to help us build a new bridge on La-Z-Boy. We’ve been doing a lot of drainage improvement on La-Z-Boy in our last few sessions. The slot drains seem to be doing a great job of allowing water to pass right through the trail bed.Continue reading “May 14th session”
Please join us Saturday May, 14th for another work session
While we’ve concluded our highline operation, we still have more gravel to move off the road’s edge. We will be using the power carrier and wheelbarrows to move this gravel in on Upper La-Z-Boy and Lower Surfer’s Way. Simultaneously, we’ll be working on a new bridge, which will be built mid-trail on La-Z-Boy. A groupContinue reading “Please join us Saturday May, 14th for another work session”
April 23rd work party set a record
We’d like to thank all 55 of our volunteers who turned out last Saturday. Fifty-five is our record number of volunteers in one session. This is astounding and we can’t thank you all enough. Once again we were operating the high-line system of ropes, pulleys, and buckets. Using this eliminates a half mile wheelbarrow tripContinue reading “April 23rd work party set a record”
Watch our Mount Vernon Trail Builder’s video
A very special thanks goes out to Jim Thompson of Anacortes for putting together this video for us. Take a look and share it with your friends.

Mount Vernon Trail Builders is a “Tokens for Tomorrow” group now through June at the Skagit Valley Food Co-Op in Mount Vernon. Our volunteersContinue reading “Tokens for Tomorrow”
Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity
This past Saturday we had the Cook family join us. Travis, Kathy, and Isaac helped move rock and soil to make improvements to La-Z-Boy. We had a smaller than usual turnout, but great weather. The power carrier is a very valuable tool. Here JT and Jerry Granahan coordinate the placement of more rock on theContinue reading “Trailbuilding, an outdoor family friendly activity”
Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th
The Parks Department has moved our railroad ballast and crushed rock into place. Tomorrow we’ll finish our new reroute on La-Z-Boy, shoring up the soft spots with rock, then capping it all with crushed. We’re also going to do some work on Surfer’s Way and Huff-n-Puff, eliminating several wet spots. We’ll move the majority ofContinue reading “Join us tomorrow, Saturday March 26th”
Rain and mud made for a fun, wet session
On March 12th we had a great group of volunteers brave the rain to help us build a replacement section of trail. The existing trail laid too low on the terrain and collected water too easily. This new connector lies further up the hill and will be much better about draining rainwater. Again we hadContinue reading “Rain and mud made for a fun, wet session”
