Cub Scout Pack #1 on 2/28, and SVC’s Wildland Fire Crew Classes on 3/1 …

On February 28th the weather was incredible, and so was our turnout – with ‘over’ fifty (50) volunteers. Below you’ll see some of our youngest volunteers and their families. Cub Scout Pack #1 was our featured group. Having so many volunteers was challenging to manage, but it went really well. We got a great dealContinue reading “Cub Scout Pack #1 on 2/28, and SVC’s Wildland Fire Crew Classes on 3/1 …”

Our Valentine’s Day session at the HOP Public Trail Facility …

On February 14th the weather was incredible, and so was our turnout with twenty-nine (29) volunteers. Below you’ll see some of our friends from the Church of LDS. They’ve been at our last several sessions, we sincerely appreciate all their help. Pictured below are three young women that all earned their MVTB tee shirts thisContinue reading “Our Valentine’s Day session at the HOP Public Trail Facility …”

HOP Public Trail Facility, work started on 1/24/15 …

On January 24 the weather ‘before’ our session was ugly. As you might expect poor weather can negatively affect turnout. As often happens the weather improved, by the session’s start time it was nice. We are fortunate, our volunteers are hearty souls.  Weather varies, and on Little Mountain it changes quickly. Our people simply dressContinue reading “HOP Public Trail Facility, work started on 1/24/15 …”

A strong start to 2015

On January 10 the weather was fine and our turnout was great.  Starting 2015 with twenty-four (24) volunteers was far beyond our expectations.  We had a handful new faces, some high school students from Burlington and Mount Vernon, and of course a bunch of regulars – including our friend Art. Having this many volunteers allowedContinue reading “A strong start to 2015”

Finishing Up 2014 with “Youth United”…

On December 13 we had great weather and an excellent turnout.  With 15 volunteers we got lots done, completing two reroutes on Bonnie & Clyde’s. In the following photo you’ll see the west end of Julieanne has been relocated.  It no longer connects directly with Bonnie & Clyde’s.  It now joins a hiking trail calledContinue reading “Finishing Up 2014 with “Youth United”…”

More work on Bonnie & Clyde’s, the 11/13/14 session…

We widened and improved Bonnie & Clyde’s in a few places this session. We’re working hard to finish up the projects on the South side of Little Mountain. That’s because early in the New Year we will begin work on the Heart of the Park (HOP) Public Trail Facility, a.k.a. the bicycle skills park. InContinue reading “More work on Bonnie & Clyde’s, the 11/13/14 session…”

On 10/25/14, two ‘Featured Groups’ and a donation…

Below you’ll see the new connector trail we worked on. It is located above the Silver Arrow Bowmen Archery Range. While it is punched through, it is yet to be completed. Here Jerry’s working in the background, with a Skagit Valley College Outdoor Club member up front. Here’s the rest of the Skagit Valley CollegeContinue reading “On 10/25/14, two ‘Featured Groups’ and a donation…”

Recapping our last two sessions; 9/30 & 10/11 …

Since our last blog update a great deal has happened. First, on 9/30 the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) came out for a special session. They worked really hard, completing a significant trail section. When finished this new multi-use trail connector will give our neighbors on the south side of Little Mountain their own trailhead.Continue reading “Recapping our last two sessions; 9/30 & 10/11 …”

On our 9/27 session corner work continued…

Below you will see our volunteers clearing the extended routing of debris; deadfall, branches and duff. Having the opportunity to extend this corner was made possible by a cooperative effort. Our friend Hal Lee borrowed a GPS unit from the Skagit Land Trust (SLT) to help us determine the property line. This made it possibleContinue reading “On our 9/27 session corner work continued…”

An amazing session on 9/13, with a new program – and ice cream…

As you will see below we had a very productive session: This rock wall was built in this one session with thirteen (13) volunteers. This photo was taken at the end of the session so unfortunately not everyone was still there. Our goal was to take a problem corner on Bonnie and Clyde’s and makeContinue reading “An amazing session on 9/13, with a new program – and ice cream…”
