Honestly, folks, we couldn’t have asked for a better crew on this blustery December day. We talked, joked, laughed, and got a TON done!
On Saturday Dec 14, 2024, twenty-four volunteers joined us for a day of rock work and community connection. We had three teams in play:
The restoration crew cleared briars by the Pump House Bridge, revealing a historic rock wall built in the early 1900’s. Along the elevated trail in the lower meadow (some people call it “the dike walk”) they cleared briars to open a view of Hansen Creek.
On the elevated walk, another crew repaired and reinforced the edge to improve long-term sustainability. The trail is elevated because the creek floods this portion of the meadow in winter and our goal is to build trails that last and can be used year-round.
The third crew worked on building a new rock wall at the Pump House Bridge. We have three goals in building this new wall: 1) Meet the 30″ height differential required by the county, 2) Improve the sustainability of the original wall, 3) Build steps that are safe for people and dogs accessing the creek.
We are especially proud of our work at this session. We got WAY more done than expected and the quality of the work is top-shelf! But, even more important, our volunteers were safe and had a good time doing it!
A special shout-out to Beth and Ed for treating us to their delightful homemade scones (iced pumpkin is ‘da bomb!)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to our amazing crew! We look forward to seeing you in 2025!
