Trail Updates: Borrow Pit to Trail Surface

We enjoyed a most excellent volunteer work party on September 28!

We worked on the connector trail for North Bridge, near the Big Rock, mining soil to create a smooth, level, sustainable trail surface.

Using native soil has lots of benefits:
1. Looks natural
2. Low cost (we don’t have to buy it!)
3. More convenient (we don’t have to drive/walk for miles to deliver material to the trail site)
4. More fun (volunteers talk, laugh, and joke while they dig)
5. Great exercise for everyone!

There is a lot of good mineral soil in this pit, so we will be utilizing it for a few more sessions as we apply the final capping to Hill Creek Trail.

When we are done, we will fill it with organic material and plant ferns to return it to its natural state.
