June 22 is our last volunteer work party before we take summer break!
Our goal is to complete the Hill Creek Loop Trail so that summer visitors enjoy a level and compact surface surrounded by trees, grass, and wild flowers.
We’ll also be working on a bonus loop, removing sod and building up the tread with mineral soil. This portion of trail will not be complete before summer break, but we are making good progress and will finish it when we return to work in the fall.
We are excited to be joined again by Mountaineers GoHike Course participants! Their efforts have helped us set records for volunteer hours and achieve much more than we expected during this build year!
To celebrate a fun and productive year of trail work, we will have a sweet treat at our lunch break thanks to a donation from Mary and Kevin McGoffin, daily trail walkers and supporters of the NSRA project! (Mary is also the author of Under the Red Roof: One Hundred Years at Northern State Hospital.)
During summer break, Art (contractor with the parks department) and a select group of volunteers will be building North Bridge, connecting Hill Creek Trail to the Pump House Trail at the north end of the park.
These work parties will not be open to the public. However, visitors will be able to view the work in progress and we will be posting photo updates on our website and social media through the summer.
