Trail Update: Turning the corner on Hill Creek Trail

We had twenty volunteers participate in our first work party of the new build year, Saturday, Sept 9.

We worked on Hill Creek Trail, excavating soil from a “borrow pit” to spread on the trail. This is how we create a level, sustainable trail surface. (We use borrow pits to access gravel and mineral soil when it’s logistically too difficult to bring in gravel from elsewhere – more on that in a later post.)

We have extended Hill Creek Trail beyond the “Big Rock” – it is now 1.2 miles long and turning the curve to head back to the meadow. When complete, the trail will be a loop just over 2 miles long.

Thank you to volunteers from HKP Architects and Sedro Woolley High School Earth Club for joining us on this fun day!

See the project map and learn more about the trail project at Northern State Recreation Area.
