Trail Update: Planting the big meadow and other spring tasks

Our next work party is Saturday, April 22 – Earth Day! You can participate in this day of environmental action by joining us to develop sustainable community trails at Northern State Recreation Area.

Here’s the plan:

1. Planting grass and native wildflowers in the big meadow: this involves prepping the soil, spreading seed, raking it in, and posting “stay on the trail” signs.

2. Improving & repairing tread on the Pump House Trail: adding rock fines to the hairpin turn where the gravel is loose and making minor repairs to other sections of the trail.

3. Trail side restoration on Hill Creek Trail: This involves grading soil for drainage, transplanting ferns, and spreading organic material to make the trail look natural.

Sign up through our website (so we know you are coming, it helps us plan!)

Work parties are scheduled 9am-4pm. Plan to arrive at the Pump House Trailhead at 8:50 am so you have time to sign in and grab coffee before we start our safety meeting.

Bring lunch and water.

We are expecting warm springtime weather with light passing rain showers. As always, wear layers and bring a rain coat!

Volunteers under age 18 need to bring a signed minor waiver form.
