Trail Update: Our Work Party Plan for March 22, 2025

Hooray! πŸŽ‰ We’ve completed our work at the south end of Hill Creek Trail and now we are moving to Song Sparrow Bridge! πŸŽ‰ It’s sooooo exciting πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰!

We’ll have four teams in play 1) rock sand capping on Hill Creek Trail, 2) removing organic material from the flagged connector trail, 3) rock work at the bridge, 4) power carrier drivers to deliver materials, 5) decommissioning the borrow pit!

Volunteers from HKP Architects and Kids ‘n K9s 4H Club will be joining the fun πŸ’š

As always, we recommend dressing in layers, sturdy shoes, and a rain coat. Bring lunch and water.

All ages, sizes, and skill levels welcome!

Schedule

8:45 am Sign-in at parking lot

9 am: Meet at Elk Trail Head

  • introductions, explain today’s work
  • safety talk
  • set-up teams
  • handout t-shirts to new volunteers
  • group photo

Noon: Lunch at the Elk Trail Head + Advisory Committee Meeting

Clean up: 3-4pm

Planning Meeting: 4:30 pm (by Invitation)

Teams
  1. Capping Hill Creek with Rock Sand (7-8 people)
  • Leads : Craig & Jason
  • Rock sand capping Hill Creek Trail from Culvert 2 to Borrow Pit 2 & Connector Trail (see map)
  1. Rock work at Song Sparrow Bridge (4-6 people)
  • Leads : Jenny & Jerry
  • Reinforcing the rock cages with 1-man, 4×8, and ballast.
  • Naturalize with organic material
  1. Power Carrier Drivers (6 people)
  • Lead : Kip
  • Carry rock and gravel from the Elk Trail Head to our 2 work sites.
  1. Connector Trail (4H Club = 10-12 people)
  • Lead : Shylee, Sativia, Alex
  • Dig up organic material and ferns on the flagged trail, place in buckets and bins.
  • Transport to the bridge site to naturalize the rock work when it is complete
  • 5. Restoration Crew (need lots of folks!)
  • Lead: Lynn
  • Finish decommissioning the borrow pit by covering with rocks, soil, and transplanted ferns.

Roving Lead : Paul Klein

  • Walk between teams making sure everyone has the tools & materials they need, are working safely and efficiently, provide guidance, answer questions.

Loading Power Carriers : JT

  • Description: Load gravel and rock into power carriers using the Dingo loader.
