Saturday, Sept 23 (2023) we are working on the borrow pit!
We will spend the morning excavating a few more loads to spread on the trail.
After lunch, we’ll be de-commissioning it!
What the heck does that mean?
It means we will be filling the hole with logs and organic material, then transplanting ferns. Visually, it’s has if the excavation never happened 🙂
We use borrow pits to access gravel and mineral soil when it is logistically too difficult to bring in gravel from somewhere else. In this case, we are working on trail over a mile from the trail head.
