Trail Update: Work Party Plan for February 28, 2026

Feb 28 is our last work party on Quarry Trail before we move to a new project at Thompson Pond.

Goals for the work party
  1. Install final pit run capping to section 1
  2. Perform trailside restoration on sections 1 & 2
  3. Rake out, and where necessary, recompact the tread on Brickyard Creek between the Fire Access Road and the Quarry Trail Connector.

8:45 am Volunteers Sign-in at the trailhead: Please note the parking area for volunteers is located on the Fire Access Rd behind Trevennen Hall. Directions can be found here.

9:00 am:

JT & Paul will lead introductions, make announcements, and explain today’s work.

Jenny will explain the jobs and set-up the work groups.

4:00 pm: Work Party Planning Meeting (by invitation for volunteers who work a full day 9am-3pm)

Restoration Team

Description:

  1. At the top of the hill above the connector trail, soften the uphill edge to reduce soil sliding onto the trail.
  2. Sections 1 & 2: where possible, clip or pull ivy 4’ away from the trail corridor and leave in the designated area near the rock wall entrance.
  3. Restoration: transplant ferns and spread organic material up to the trail edge, giving particular attention to the 2 drains on the hillside.
Capping/Mineral Soil Team

Description: Spread and level pit run, creating a slight crown or slope for drainage. Cover with cloth. Compact!

Power Carrier Drivers

Description: Carry mineral soil between staging area and the work site.
