Trail Update: Good times building Quarry Trail…photos from our Jan 10, 2026 work party

The Rock Wall Crew! Using native stone, they built a rock wall at the entrance to the new Quarry Trail matching the style of the rock walls throughout Northern State Hospital. Photo: Jenny Sandbo, Skagit Trail Builders.

For planning purposes, Quarry Trail is divided into 3 sections (see map below).

On January 10, 2026, our volunteer crew made excellent progress! The trail surface is nearly complete on Section 3; out-sloped, drained, and compacted for sustainability and trail user’s enjoyment. Our restoration crew did their magic so this segment of trail looks like its always been there.

We also completed a portion of Section 2 and built a rock wall at the entrance to Section 1, across the road from Sedro-Woolley’s Olmsted Park.

Later this year a crosswalk and trail will be created to connect Quarry Trail to the park.

Our next work party is scheduled for Jan 24, 2025. We will be continuing the work on Quarry Trail, completing trail tread, reworking a retaining wall, and restoring trail side.

Quarry Trail is located just off Northern State Road, across from Olmsted Park in Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Youth Leaders Amelia and Chloe compacted the trail surface so it sheds water and is mud free.

Next Work Party is scheduled for Jan 24, 2026.
