What is the difference between a path that gets you from point A to point B and a trail that brings you joy and fills your soul?
Beauty!
On Saturday, June 14, twenty eight volunteers joined us for a day of trail beautification. One team worked on Pump House Loop, raking up organic debris from the trail surface and trimming vegetation, completing about 1.5 miles of trail.
The other team focused their efforts on improvements at the Pump House Bridge. They finished repairing the damage that had been done to the rock wall by vandals. They widened the switchback, making it easier for maintenance equipment, bicycles, and jog strollers to navigate. They built additional rock walls to prevent soil from sloughing onto the trail, decommissioned the original equipment access with soil and ferns, and planted the terraced wall with wildflower seeds and ferns. They also completed the repairs to the rock wall that had been damaged by vandals.
The result is stunning! The Pump House Bridge was already a lovely place to sit and watch the water. Now it feels lush and natural, a bit tucked away from the upper trail.
June 28 is our last work party before summer break. We’ll be tending to the final details of our project for Skagit County Parks and Recreation. Join us for another day of beautification, followed by a celebratory BBQ at the trailhead.
