Trail Update: Work Party Plan for June 14, 2025

Scope of Work: June 2025

We are nearing the finish line on our project on park property! Only two work parties left before we break for summer.

In September we will dedicate one more volunteer session to preparing the trail for the Sept 19 Ribbon Cutting at Song Sparrow Bridge before we move to adjacent properties managed by the Port of Skagit and City of Sedro-Woolley.

We are excited to create more connections and GROW THE SIZE of the NSRA trail system! (more info coming soon)

Work Party Plan for Saturday, June 14, 2025

Welcoming youth volunteers from the Skagit County Rainbow for Girls

Trail Goals:

🌿 Create “raised bed” plantings at the Pump House Bridge Rock Wall.

  • Why? Vandals used the flat surface of the terraced wall as a leverage point to pry rocks out of the wall, throwing them off the bridge into the creek. We repaired most of that damage during our last work party. We believe that by reducing access by covering most of the wall facings with soil, ferns, and wildflowers will help control this bad behavior. It will also make the wall look and feel more natural!

🌿 Widen the trail corridor and soften the switchback turn at the Pump House Bridge.

  • Why? So maintenance equipment, bicycles, and jog strollers can more easily make the turn.

🌿 Decommission the equipment access trail at the Pump House Bridge.

🌿 Vegetation management on the Pump House Trail

  • Why? ‘cuz the trail is getting overgrown! (The Parks dept plans to maintenance in 2026, but in the meantime, we are doing what we can)

Join us on social to see our crew at work (and play).
