McIntyre Scholarship Awarded to Skagit Trail Builders Youth Leaders

Congratulations to our Youth Leaders, Sativia Espinoza and Alex Ruiz-Talbot, on being awarded the Sidney S. McIntyre Sr. Memorial Scholarship!

This four-year, full-ride “last-dollar-in” scholarship covers the difference between other funding and student need, including tuition, course fees, and on-campus housing.

Sativia is heading to Western Washington University to study environmental or atmospheric science, with the goal of becoming a meteorologist. She credits her volunteering with Skagit Trail Builders for helping her develop communication skills, which boosted her confidence and contributed to her successful scholarship interview.

Alex will also be attending Western Washington University, where he aims to become a history teacher for grades 7-12. He reflects that his volunteer work with Skagit Trail Builders helped him appreciate the value of community service and foster connections with diverse individuals. Additionally, it made him aware of the health benefits that come from community engagement and spending time outdoors.

We are sooooo proud!
