Map of Work Party Plan for Oct 26, 2024

We are so excited for our Oct 26 work party. We will be concentrating our efforts on two areas of work essential for a sustainable, beautiful trail…capping and restoration!
Along with are amazing crew of dedicated volunteers, we will be joined by staff from HKP Architects and United General Hospital District 304.
Here’s the plan for the day:
Meet at the volunteer parking lot at 8:45 am for sign in.
We’ll walk together to the Pump House Trail Head where Jerry and JT will lead introductions, explain the day’s work, and assign the teams. Our Next Gen Leaders, Sativia and Shylee, will lead the safety talk.
We will take a few minutes to pass out t-shirts to our new volunteers, take a group photo, then head out to our work sites!
Teams
Borrow Pit Team (4 people)
Description: This team will be working in higher elevation portion of the borrow near the Big Rock, removing organic material and mining mineral soil. Load buckets 1/2 full (so they are safe to lift), then pour into power carriers
Power Carrier Drivers (4 people)
Description: Deliver mineral soil from the borrow pit to the trail sites. Dump and evenly spread the soil, following instructions of the Spread & Compact Team.
Spread & Compact Team (4 people)
Description: Two people will guide the power carrier drivers where to dump and spread, then they will rake and level the soil. 2 people will manage laying the cloth and running the compactor.
Restoration Crew (3 teams, flexible number of people per team)
Description: Each team will have 1 wheelbarrow driver carrying plant material from the trail site to the pit where the material will be unloaded. Each team will need several people to trim briars and wildflowers 4′ back from the trail, rake into piles, and load into the wheelbarrows.
The map above shows where each team will start and the direction they will be working. More details will be provided at the morning meeting.
Lunch (and the porta-potty) will be located at the Pump House Trail Head. We will hold our once-a-month Advisory Committee Meeting at lunch-time.
After lunch, volunteers are welcome to switch teams.
Volunteer work parties are open to everyone – no experience required. All ages, sizes, genders, and skill set’s are encouraged to contribute to this popular community trail system.
