Bridge Update: June 28 2024

In 2023, Skagit County approved a proposal to build a pedestrian footbridge that would connect the north end of the Pump House Trail to Hill Creek Trail.

The responsibility for the bridge project lies with the County and their contractor, Art Tuftee. The county has purchased steel beams and other materials required for the bridge construction. The county, working with the contractor, has obtained the necessary approvals to work over the creek. The window for working on the bridge is from June to October, and the project must be completed before the salmon run begins in November.

As a volunteer trail organization, we fully support the bridge project and are excited to offer our skilled labor and individual expertise when requested. In preparation for the proposed bridge, we have roughed-in a trail to the site.

Although we initially expected the project to commence in early June, as of the conclusion of our volunteer build season on June 22, 2024, our leadership team has not received an update.

Our community of volunteers is enthusiastic about the project, and are eager to contribute in any way possible. The contractor will be seeking volunteers with construction-specific skills. We anticipate that he will schedule work parties soon and provide us with the relevant information, allowing us to invite a small group of volunteers to participate.

Please note: Skagit Trail Builders is not responsible for coordinating the work, but we wholeheartedly support it and plan to assist in any way we can!
