2019: Breaking Ground on Hill Creek Trail

During the winter of 2018-2019, we broke ground on Hill Creek Trail at Northern State Recreation Area.

🤓 (Side note! At the time, it was being called the “Pumphouse Trail” because of the historic pump house it runs adjacent to. In May 2025, it was renamed Hill Creek Trail).

It connects to the north and south ends of the NSRA Maintenance Access Rd and Song Sparrow Bridge.

This trail took a while to complete because our team was multitasking on a number of projects as they were approved. For example, when the permit window opened for building Dovetail Bridge across Hansen Creek, we shifted our attention to construction, completing the bridge in the summer of 2019.

When Brickyard Creek Trail was greenlit, we spent several work parties building the 1/4 mile segment that connects Olmsted Park with the gravel road behind Trevennan Hall.

Our work on the trail was delayed again when the COVID-19 pandemic closed us down in early 2020. After many months away, our volunteer teams came back to work in 2021, completing the trail in 2022.

From Hill Creek Trail, you have high views of Hill Creek, grassy meadows, and the now-famous Beaver Ponds.
