Milestones: Year End Report 2024

Skagit Trail Builders Milestones: Year End Report 2024
In 2024, 200 hundred volunteers donated their time to our trail project at Northern State Recreation Area in Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Over 3600 hours were volunteered in 2024!
Students from Sedro-Woolley High School donated 623 hours.
Mountaineers Go Hike Course Participants volunteered 481 hours in 2024.

Community volunteers assisted the County’s contractor in building North Bridge. Seven people gave 194 hours to the project.

A special thanks to Kinsey, Craig, Bret, Emily, Joe, Jerry, and Lynn for their hard work and dedication to the project.

We are proud to include more of our community in the project!

In 2024:

  • 16% of our hours were contributed by volunteers under the age of 18
  • 28% contributed by 18-49
  • 56% contributed by those over the age of 50

This is a big change from just a few years ago when 90% of hours volunteered came from those 50+.

Together, we built and improved 2.5 miles of Hill Creek Trail, including a bonus loop!

Our 2025 Build Plan:

  • Complete the Pump House and Hill Creek Trail Loops, which will include..
    • Improvements to the elevated trail that runs along Hansen Creek
    • Safety improvements near Pump House Bridge
    • Build connector trail and approaches to North Bridge*
    • Decommission borrow pit
    • Final trail capping

Our trail work on Skagit County Parks and Recreation property is expected to be done by fall 2025. Then we will move to adjacent properties managed by the Port of Skagit and City of Sedro-Woolley to improve trail connections and grow the size of the NSRA trail system.

*Note: The county’s contractor will complete North Bridge in early 2025 with the assistance of a small group of volunteers. Once the bridge is complete, we will extend the connector trail, build the elevated approaches, and restore the area around the bridge and creek.
